Lantana is a perennial evergreen tropical flowering plant native to the tropical Americas and Africa. They grow vine-like but are considered a shrub and are known for their rounded clusters of colorful flowers that can bloom year-round in USDA zones 8 through 11. They are planted as a butterfly and hummingbird ground cover and garden accents in warmer climates but make great annual or container plants that can be overwintered indoors. Outdoors they love full sun and can even handle salt spray in ocean landscapes, indoors they like bright direct sunlight. They are often planted as a hanging basket for their vine-like growing habit. They like daily moisture and humidity indoors for the best flowering. Keep the soil moist and do not allow them to dry out or sit in water or be near drafts or breezes. Lantana does not require much fertilizer. Use a loose sandy potting medium that retains moisture but drains well. Shipping and handling can be very tough on live plants so please be sure to open and check your plant right away.
